Penang Starwalk

18 September 2011, i joined a local event organized by The Star which is Penang Starwalk.

As early as 430 AM in the morning, Michelle and i had walked from our desasiswa to the USM Sg. Dua gate. There, we met with another coursemate, Alyssa. We rode Rapid Penang (FOC :P ) to Penang Times Square, the place where we started the walk.

After we reached Times Square, we registered ourselves and started to hunt for breakfast. Then, suddenly, we spotted another two coursemate, Amril and Sing Yee.. It was such a coincidence! So, after both of them registered themselves, we went to Mary Brown together for breakfast.

After breakfast, since it was still early, we went inside Times Square and lingered around with sleepy mood~~~ Those who had registered themselves in competition walk had started their journey as they had to walk for 10km- 4km more than us who registered for non-competitor.

Pose with tuk-tuk inside Times Square

The non-competition walk started around 715 am, and we had to walk for 6km along the Georgetown Heritage Trail... There would be 6 station along the way and we had to stamp our 'passport' every time we passed by each station.

The morning sky at Times Square.. see how many people joined this walk... approximately 10,000/20,000 people.. (im x sure)

Pose for the camera first before start the walk :P

Another pose!

So, the walk started and Alyssa left the four of us behind! She walked so fast! We had warned her before that she must wait for us, but she seem to enjoy walking alone far away in front of us... Fine then! lol.. (im not angry. it's ok bah... hehe)

Therefore, the rest of four of us walked together in group along the journey.. The buildings around Georgetown was so fantastic. Most of the building dated back to the war era. So, you can see a lot of old buildings with European/British style here. I was amazed by the architectural features of the buildings .Some of them has been abandoned and some are still been preserved. I feel like im walking along the streets during the ancient time.. lol I think i have started loving Georgetown.. :P

First station: City Hall 1903

Second station: Fort Cornwallis 1786

Third station: St. George's Church 1818 (pic from www.malaysian-explorer.com)

Fourth station: Goddess of Mercy Temple 1800

Fifth station: Sri Mahamariamman Temple 1801

A creative piece of art found along the journey

Sixth station: Kapitan Keling Mosque, 19th century

Red and Yellow wristband- signifying that i had walked a certain distance in the journey

Finally! Few minutes before 9am, we finished the walk! Hurray!

Pose with the certificate we get as we manage to finish our walk within 2 hours! There, the first from right of the pic, Alyssa, who finished earlier than the rest of us. haha :D

Lucky draw! All hoping to get a motorcycle because walking around USM is a tiring job. Haha.. but none of us were lucky enough.. huhu...

It was a fun experience walking around the Georgetown... I don't deny that i'm darn tired after this event. but, i guess it worth it.. haha.. :D

Random updates

Another week had passed.. Life in USM so far, i will describe it as hectic... Assignments keep haunting us even it was just the beginning of the lecture week.

Well, School of Pharm orientation had ended and overall it was fun. We had an enjoyable ice-breaking, SnJ night where we have to find for our direct senior based on a description paper (luckily i don't have to sing to persuade my direct senior to admit herself as my direct senior :P), tiring yet exciting Explorace where we all get very tired and wet from the splashes of water by our seniors (we get no.3 for Explorace :P )  and a lastly the closing ceremony where each team was supposed to perform a drama.. My team had performed a drama entitled ''Gigi'' (a drama based on combination of Tooth Fairy and Coming Soon movie + What The Hell song)... hehe..

Even though daily life in USM is hectic, my friend and i manage to steal some time (even if it was just a few hours during the break between lectures) to explore area around USM and Penang... hihi..

12/9: Lunch trip to Bali Bali..

14/9: Dinner trip Roti Canai Bom

16/9: Trip to Logos Hope-bought some books there..

The ship as the background... can u spot which one is me?? xp

17/9: Dinner after attending mass at Church of our Lady of Sorrows-Char Koey Teow-RM6 per plate... very expensive... the noodles were so-so, but the prawn is good!

Another one- This is popiah i think... don't know the exact name..

Well, that's all for this one.. Will write about Penang Starwalk which i joined next!

USM Orientation Week! Part 2

University orientation week is finally over!

I remembered the day i reached Penang on 5th September 2011. It was a very tiring day. Like almost a whole day journey from Sibu to KL then KL to Penang again. Plus, i had brought a lot of things with me. 2 big luggage, 1 small bag and a backpack. They were heavy, but luckily i didn't get charged for the slight overweight of my check-in luggage. Upon reached Penang airport, USM ppsl fetched me together with few other students from Sabah. Some unpleasant misunderstanding happens, but i rather kept that to myself..

When i reached USM, i was placed in a temporary hostel. I shared the room with another first-year student from Sibu. At that time, i didn't have the necessary toiletries like soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc..and i was wondering how am i going to take bath since the hostel mini-shop had closed. Thanks to Aileen (my temporary room mate from Sibu)  for her kindness,  that she lend me all those necessary things, that i didn't have to spent the night with all those sweats and sticky-ness. Thanks her a lot!

The next day, we went for the registration, and i had to move all my bags to my room at the 3rd floor myself. (another tiring day!) I cleaned the room while waiting for my room mate to come. After some time, finally my room mate and her family reached. Hui Xuan (not actual spelling) is her name and her family members were all so friendly. :)

That night, our orientation officially started. As what i had said before, the whole orientation week was so-so with all those talks and briefings. Since we didn't really get enough sleep, we were so sleepy during the talks that we just ignore the person in the front and talks to each other to avoid sleepiness. But, some time, we do accidentally if not purposely dozed off. ZZzzzzz.....

DTSP where most talks and briefings were conducted

All with sleepy face due to the boring talks... :P

The only activity that i like during the week was Walkrobic. In this activity, we marched according to our desasiswa to the school stadium. At there we had a FUN aerobic exercise lead by a super duper sporting lecturer. However, the aerobic session was so short because of not time constraint. I just can't get enough of it. The aerobic was very fun and i enjoyed it very much! Anyway there were desasiswa slogan and motto competition. Saujana, my desasiswa won for the slogan competition. If im not mistaken lah.. hehehe...

Walkrobic... Shout! Shout! 1 Saujana!

Some inefficiency in the arrangement of the schedule during the orientation week (my own opinion) made most of the student confused and most of us get the misleading infos that we had to go through all the troubles of dropping some subjects and co-curricular activities the first day the school reopen after we had register for them during the orientation week. As for my case, i had to drop English and take a co-curricular activity, in which i chose Karate. lol. :P

I still remember the busy day that my friend and i had to go to different place to drop English, register co-co, check for class time-table etc. It was a hot day and we all were like tired and all sweaty with all those travellings. Buses were there but lots of walking also had to be done. huhu..

The orientation, ended on Sunday. I was so relieved that it's over as i can get more rest and having more time for myself after this.

But, who knows, that our school orientation started on the week after the university orientation week. So, we, the students of School of Pharmacy was having two consecutive week of orientation. However, so far, the school orientation was fun. Will write about this later in another entry.

Well, it's already late right now. Guess i have to stop here. Closing ceremony for school orientation in 6 hours time! :D

USM Orientation Week!

Fuh!

Finally got time to on my laptop and online! What a busy orientation week... 1 more day to go! Yeay!

I still couldn't believe that I'm officially a USM pharmacy student!

I've met  and befriended a lot of friends within this few days. The orientation is so-so.. The activities were more to talks and briefings about academic stuff and things that we should know about studying in a university. We spent a lot of time at travelling, walking and waiting for the bus. That's the lame part. But, i think we should be grateful as from what we heard from other friends in the other university, UM for example, they only get to sleep for 2 hours per day during the orientation week! Thank God that does not happen here..

The university is beautiful indeed, and i do really feel like i'm in a garden. (FYI, USM is called as university in the garden) I love the environment here. Especially the trees... they are so beautiful! How i wish i had a camera so that i can take the pictures of all those amazing works of God.

Erm, i guess that's it for this entry. After this there is another programme to attend. I'm very sleepy right now, but i rather sacrifice this precious  little rest time to online rather than taking a short nap.. Lol  :p
